Afrika Bambaataa
Afrika Bambaataa (born Kevin Donovan on April 17, 1957) is considered the God Father of Hip Hop and one of the originators of break-beat dj-ing. As a member of the Black Spades gang and as founder of the Zulu Nation Bambaataa’s influence on what was to become rap and hip hop culture was tremendous. His Bronx legacy and above all his love for music and men determined Bambaataa to form a group of artists whose main purpose was to transform those involved in gang life into positive and active members of the community.
He was also the founder of the SoulSonic Force and their tours were focused on what Afrika Bambaataa considered to be the core values of hip hop: peace, unity, love, and having fun. Along his career Afrika Bambaataa released over 20 albums among which Planet Rock (1982), Lost Generation (1996), Metal (2005) and performed with famous artists like James Brown, Sly & Robbie, UB40 and Boy George to mention only a few. On September 27, 2007 Bambaataa was nominated for 2008 Rock and Roll Hall of Fame Inductions as recognition of his outstanding influence on rap and hip hop.
