No more than three producers (Dr. Dre, RZA, and Prince Paul) can test DJ Premier’s status as the most important trackmaster of the 90s, and no style is more distinctive. He is one half of the duo Gang Starr, together with Guru on the lyrical side. Besides co-producing almost the entirety of the Gang Starr catalog, DJ Premier has created countless classic for many groups and solo artists since the early 90s- working with nearly ever major rapper from the period with the exception of 2Pac. These include notable tracks for artists such as Nas, Notorious B.I.G., KRS-One, Jay-Z, Common, Big L, M.O.P., Mos Def, Dilated Peoples, Snoop Dogg, Royce Da 5’9”, Rakim, Jeru the Damaja, and D’Angelo. Though almost exclusively a hip-hop producer, Premier has made his mark into other genres with artists like Christina Aguilera, Limp Bizkit, Craig David, and Macy Gray. Premier has been in the studio working on a number of different projects and sneaking out from time to time to DJ at some of the hottest parties around.
