Grandmaster Flash
The outstanding American hip hop musician and DJ Grand Master Flash was born Joseph Saddler on January 1, 1958 in Barbados. He is one of the artists that broke new ground into hip-hop DJing. In late 1970, Flash started his own group Grandmaster Flash and the Furious Five whose members were Cowboy (Keith Wiggins), Melle Mel (Melvin Glover) and Kid(d) Creole (Nathaniel Glover), Rahiem (Guy Todd Williams) and Scorpio (Eddie Morris).
Melle Mel was the first to call himself an MC and Cowboy created the term "Hip hop" while teasing a friend who had joined the army.
The group’s debut album, The Message released in 1982 included the singles The Message and It's Nasty and it was certified platinum. The group released seven albums and most of them were certified gold. Soon after the group split and Flash, Kid Creole and Rahiem performed under the name Grand Master Flash.
