Kenny Dope
Three-time Grammy nominated Kenny “Dope†Gonzalez has been entertaining large crowds with his fusion of house, hip-hop, Latin, jazz, soul, and broken beats since the early 1990’s. Kenny got his start by organizing Brooklyn neighborhood parties (under the Masters At Work alias along with his partner Mike Delgado) that were often attended by local hero Todd Terry. After Terry introduced Kenny to DJ "Little" Louie Vega the duo immediately began a creative partnership that they also called Masters at Work. The Masters At Work sound became very popular in clubs and they became more sought after by artists and labels, eventually producing and remixing artists such as R. Kelly, Janet Jackson, Daft Punk, Barbara Tucker, India, Luther Vandross, BeBe Winans, and George Benson.
Kenny Dope's solo breakthrough came with the recording of the breakthrough Bucketheads album in 1995. "The Bomb (These Sounds Fall Into My Mind)" became the standout track, fulfilling Kenny's ambition to make music that was both raw and fun. Its driving drums, screeching sound effects and an extended sample from Chicago’s "Street Player" made the song a hit on the European pop charts.
For the past decade, Kenny Dope has released thousands of tracks, remixed hundreds of singles and DJ’ed all over the world, Performing live, Kenny plays a blend of house, jazz, funk, soul, and hip-hop while keeping the mood colorful, energetic and soulful.
