Paul Oakenfold (born August 30, 1963 in Greenhithe, Kent, England) is a world famous DJ and producer, whose works have helped define the mainstream of trance.
Paul Oakenfold has long been proclaimed one of the world's premier DJ/remixers by such leading sources as Rolling Stone, BPM and Remix magazines. He has been voted the world's top DJ on numerous occasions.
Not only does Paul Oakenfold produce records, but he also mixes them. In 1987 he spent several months in Ibiza with a few friends and fell in love with dance club music. Oakenfold produced "Happy Mondays' Pills 'n' Thrills and Bellyaches" before producing for U2, Massive Attack, Simply Red and New Order (to name a few).
In 1999 after building an American fanbase he released "Tranceport" which was widely accepted by American trance fans.
His long and storied career has included playing sold-out gigs at such unique venues as the Hollywood Bowl, The Great Wall of China, Colorado's Red Rocks Amphitheatre and the main stage at Glastonbury. He has been a resident DJ as such legendary dance venues as Ibiza's Amnesia, Liverpool's Cream and London's Heaven, which he also ran. Among his numerous hit songs are Starry Eyed Surprise Ready, Steady Faster, Faster Kill Pussycat and Southern Sun. He has perhaps achieved even more success with his remixes of such artists as U2, Madonna, Justin Timberlake, Radiohead, Britney Spears and Underworld.
His music has also appeared in many feature films including Nobel Son, Collateral, Swordfish, The Matrix Reloaded, Pirates of the Caribbean, Die Another Day, Planet Of The Apes, The Bourne Identity and Shrek II.
In October 2007 he released his Greatest Hits & Remixes, Vol. 1 which features his best performance tracks. In 2008 Oakenfold toured to support his album and worked on film scores for various films and television programs such as Californication, The Heavy, Fever, The Bourne Identity, and Speed Racer. In the fall of 2008, he started his first Resident DJ position in the United States,"Paul Oakenfold Presents: Perfecto Las Vegas" which was specifically conceptualized for Rain Nightclub, the legendary 25,000-square-foot nightclub and concert venue at the Palms Casino Resort. In addition to his residency at Rain, Oakenfold continues to play venues around the world. He opened Madonna's concerts on the Sticky & Sweet Tour in 2009.
Pop Killer, his third studio album, is set to be released in 2010. Paul Oakenfold has created more than one hundred remixes, and has sold over 5,000,000 records.
